Back to NH

Somehow, we let most of the summer pass by without escaping to our NH place. You'd think not being at work might leave some time for that, but we decided to spend the last of my maternity leave trying to get some projects done at the house. You know, with all that free time we had. :-) In any case, we did get to go up again, finally, one weekend in August. It was a fairly quick trip - up Friday night and back early Sunday morning for Mike's soccer practice. While there though, it was pretty awesome.

The activity we chose to do was our much beloved Polar Caves. Cade was there last year in utero but this would be his first out of the womb experience. And he spent it riding in style with his Momma. Dylan on the other hand, walked 99% of it himself which is no small feat. There are LOTS of stairs and, of course, cave trekking. With the assistance of his Dad through the caves, he made it through mostly unscathed. There was one small incident in the very last cave where Mike wasn't able to hold his hand for 1 split second and he took a spill. Just a few scratches on the shin though. My tough guy was fine.

That Friday night, we arrived at the condo around 9. It just so happened that Mike's sister and her family were finishing up a few days of vacation there so we all crammed together for the night. I must admit, I was a bit worried about our whole family sleeping in one room for the night (or rather some or all of us not getting sleep) but it worked out fantastically. It was actually kind of nice to wake up and see both my babies sleeping peacefully at the foot of the bed. And, we got to spend a really nice night and breakfast with Kristina's family.

The Polar Bear!

Dylan's been looking at pictures from our trip last year a lot.
He knew where we were going and was excited to see the bears.

Cade's First Cave
Bonus Mom points for me - I kept Cade's cute little head away from all rocks.
He did get upset once when I slipped just a little on a rock but he
didn't get hurt - just startled from the quick jostle.

Cade and I Sat This One Out
Baby or not, I've never braved these. A little claustrophobic for my tastes.
I could never be a true spelunker.

These brave boys did go through and survived!

Back at the condo, Mike and Dylan had a nice nap while Cade and I took a few loops with the stroller around the complex and then sat under a tree in the grass. Amazing how therapeutic 15 minutes of peaceful time in the grass can be. I felt very relaxed. The day was topped off with ice cream and dinner...and in that order. What a nice treat!

Luckily, we would be back in the mountains in just a couple more weeks. More posts on that to come. (I finally got lots of pictures uploaded so "just" need to add some text this week. It's blog catch up time!)

Oh, and today is a big birthday day in my family. A birthday shout out to Mike and my Mom. Two of my very favorite people were born on this day and that's worth celebrating!
