Newport Continued

My blogging time has been diminishing lately so I've got to catch up! Here's the last of our Newport mini trip.

We stayed at the super cute Jailhouse Inn. The building was originally built in 1772 and, as the name suggests, was used as a jail. The Inn did a great job of using the theme in the decor of the hotel.

After another breakfast at the hotel Saturday morning, we squeezed in one more mansion before heading home for a busy weekend. We chose to go to Chateau-sur-Mer because the decor looked to be very different than the other mansions to tour. The home was built for William Wetmore. The Wetmore family inhabited the house until William's granddaughter, Edith, passed away in 1969. The house was stunning, of course, and we had a great tour guide who was obviously very passionate about the preservation of this home and it's story. She made the experience just that much more enjoyable. We had a great time learning about the unique architecture of the home and the very interesting lives of the family that inhabited it. Of course, no photos of the interior are allowed, so here are a few of the exterior.

It was a great little getaway. After that tour, we headed out of town, made the short drive (about an hour) back home and got back to the reality of all the work that needed to be done at home. Sigh. At least we did get to fit in some fun with some great weather to boot!
