Ok. It's no secret the Boston area has been getting a little snow....ok, a LOT of snow! Listen, we get it all the time and we're pretty equipped to deal with so normally, no big deal. What's unique about our current situation is we literally had nothing on the ground a couple of weeks ago and have since been dumped on by what seems like a storm every other day...amounting to about 5 feet total of snow falling in my area in a matter of weeks. And it's been cold. Not like oh I live in a cold climate and am complaining about cold, but hasn't dipped below freezing so none of said snow has melted. At all. In any case, we're dealing with some pretty high snow banks which makes seeing around intersections tricky, not to mention finding mailboxes, and more densely populated areas have no place left to put it. It's kind of crazy!
So it's fitting that as yet another foot of snow is finishing falling today, I post pictures of some of the fun parts of snow. Hey, I like snow. I chose cold over Texas heat so I really don't like to complain about the choices I've made. And in current conditions, I really still find all this snow rather breathtaking and am in awe at what nature can do. Of course, having someone else to plow and shovel my sidewalk helps me not hate it since I don't have to deal with that aspect of it. In any case, our family does what we can to enjoy it. The below pics were taken before the last 2 storms spat on us, so just imagine another couple of feet on top of what you see here.

| Our Snow Cave! |
Mike built our snow cave after the blizzard which brought about 33 inches to our area, which was on Cade's birthday. The governor shut down the roads, thus my very first work from home day in 15 years.

The Boys Constructing Note, this pile is at the top of our driveway. We have to scale it to get to the back yard. And after the snow we've gotten since, there are no signs left of this cool fort. |
I also built a snow fort. I think you can kind of still see the outline of the walls. I think it would be really cool to be able to get in there and at least shovel out the middle. It's on my to do list.

Our front yard is also great for sledding. Neither of the boys like to go solo, so we get a good work out going up and down the hill with them.

Snow Wall By the Garage You can see the snow bank outside of it that we have to go over to get to the yard. It's much bigger than that now. |
When my parents where here for the party, I insisted that they get geared up and go out as well. I think they had seriously planned to not leave the house. Well, that's just not how we do stuff around here. Snow is a part of life....not something that keeps us indoors and home bound!

After getting through that play time safely, they opted not to tempt fate and didn't try it again. And although we didn't get any snapshots of it, we had some fun times outside over this last weekend too. Cade and I helped to dig one of the bays of our garage out of the snowbank. He had a great time finding big "snowballs" in the snowbank to throw at my shovel which I would then launch into the back yard. On Sunday, the boys collected some of our many icicles and made a power source valley in the mountain we made in the backyard from shoveling off the deck. They have been thrilled with school cancellations and happy to play outdoors so I don't think it's wearing on them a bit.
However, increased traffic has not been joyous for me (though the days it actually snows are great because no one else is on the roads except for me heading into work) and the days off school may be wearing on Mike a bit. We would be ok with a small break from storms and some warmer temps to decrease snow piles a little bit. With even more snow in the forecast, that won't be happening this week! Yikes!
