Poodle Style

It's how all the cool cats are wearing their fur these days!

Poor Mr. O! This is a souvenir from his stay in the hospital last week - 2 shaved legs. One had a glucose IV and the other a fluids IV. But, his stay did the trick and he seems to be doing well. We've finally gotten all the tests back and have tried to surmise what caused his crash.

Oliver's thyroid levels are still too high and he probably has a slight case of pancreatitis. For his thyroid levels, we're increasing the medication we've been giving him. For his pancreatitis, there's not much to do. His is definitely a mild case (not like the severe case that he had 8 years ago that hospitalized him for a week...and we weren't sure he was ever coming home if you know what I mean) and he's still eating which is a good thing. We just have to be sure to keep his foods lowfat so his pancreas doesn't have to work too hard.

The other issue we're dealing with is his insulin levels. He's been on the same insulin for so many years but is now unregulated from all of the health issues. For now, we've reduced the amount we are giving him and are awaiting a blood glucose monitor delivery so we can see how we might need to adjust his dosage. Normal cats just have to go to the vet for a blood test. But Oliver's not normal. At the vet he is a raving lunatic so minimizing trips to that stressful environment, especially while sick, is necessary. Not to mention, stress messes with your blood sugar so a reading there isn't all that helpful anyway. So, we'll do what we can do at home.
For now, though, he seems to be doing pretty well and we're happy to have our little snuggly boy at home.

(I've also been keeping Mike away from all black markers since he keeps mentioning drawing boots on Oliver and getting him a hat. I think he's been watching too much Shrek or seen too many previews for Puss N' Boots.)

Awww, give our love to Mr. O. You and Mike are great parents (not just for the Dylan but also for the pets!).
