Fall Harvest

This post was supposed to go up Friday. It was a long week though and this preggo promptly forgot to finish it up that night. Saturday, we spent all day running errands and then Sunday we spent a day by the gas fireplace during our freak October snowstorm that knocked out our power for 24 hours. So, Happy Halloween all! We're going to knock on some neighbor's doors tonight and gather some candy....if any of them are "open for business"....a lot of towns around here have "cancelled" trick or treating (now, really, how can you cancel that??) due to the widespread power outages and fallen limbs that are making conditions in some areas a bit treacherous. Wish us luck!

As I mentioned in a previous post, last weekend (technically 2 weekends ago now) we finally took a break from full devotion to moving\getting settled activities to host a guest. My friend, Rachel, from Austin came for a fall New England experience. So, we did our best to provide. Saturday, we got up and ready and headed out to Lookout Farm, just a town or two over from us, for some good old fashion apple picking!

We got there, bought our tickets, then loaded the "train" to be taken out to where the apple picking was best.

The trees here are smaller than ones you usually see at other orchards (our guide on the train ride explained to us why but baby brain is causing that info not to currently come to mind) so all apples were in reaching distance to pick.

Rachel - Going in for a Pick

Dylan Running Down the Row (He had more fun doing that than picking.)

Dylan Picking
Once we got him to stop running and try picking, he enjoyed it...for a few apples.

Apples Galore!

Me and My Boy
While we picked, we ate of course. There is absolutely nothing more tasty than an apple straight from the tree. Yummy!

In order to traverse the property, you had to take the train. Where we were picking apples, we had to stop back at the "front gate" before we could take the train to the children's play area and petting zoo. We took full advantage of our layover.

YeeHaw!
After taking these pictures, Mike was approached to take a photo of a couple next to the barn and the pumpkins. I followed Dylan inside the barn to where Rachel was buying some apple donuts. Yum! When I came back out, Mike announced that I had missed it.....he was actually taking pictures of a proposal! Yay! Congratulations and hugs were made to the couple of strangers that had just experienced a memorable event and then we hopped the train to our next stop - the petting zoo and play area!

Petting the Donkey's Ass (Sorry, couldn't resist that!)

Cute Buffalo!

Climbing the Ropes (Though, he didn't get much further than this.)

Shawnee the Pony!

Yeehaw!

I think we were talking about how this was just like Woody and Bullseye!

Then it was back to board the train to get back to the car. All the paved areas for the train were covered in these lovely grape vines.

Yet Another Self Portrait - This Time with Hydration
Back at the barn, Dylan couldn't leave without saying goodbye to his old pal, the plastic pig.

It was a good morning. We went back to the house and rested for a while. Then Rachel delighted us with her culinary skills and a taste of Texas - Tex Mex for dinner! Always a treat to get the real thing in these parts. So from enjoying the taste of New England to the taste of Texas, we had happy tummies that day.

Those apples and pears were delicious for over a week! I enjoyed cooking for you all. Next time, I'll bring pastries and chef Ryan with me too. Between the two of us, you will not go hungry. I owe you some Ben and Jerry's Americone ice cream. The aquarium, city site seeing, and hiking were great - you two are the hosts with the most!
